It was the talk of the town, when the crème de la crème of everything beautiful, went under the auctioneer’s hammer at the antique, art and collectible auction held by the leader in the industry, Schokman & Samerawickreme on a bright and sunny Sunday morning in December.
It was indeed a feast for the eyes to see works of many renowned Sri Lankan artists of the highest caliber such as Richard Gabriel, George Keyt, Justin Pieris Deraniyagala, Stanley Abeysinghe, Neville Weeraratne, G S Fernando and Druwinka Madawela all lined up together, contrasting the different styles and mediums used by each artist, to convey to the world what they really feel deep down.
Amidst the many paintings was a rare piece of history, an antique heavily carved ebony and calamander occasional table with eagle legs, which fetched an impressive LKR 3.2Mn.
