Schokman & Samerawickreme Creates History

Schokman & Samerawickreme created history yet again proving its professionalism, dedication and passion to what they do best!!

At the three day gigantic auction sale conducted over the weekend by Schokman & Samerawickreme, over 1,000 lots of items were sold, the most sought after was a portrait of the late Fredrick Richard Senanayake, a lawyer and a leading member of the Sri Lankan independence movement.

The prized possession, drawn by the late A C G S Amarasekara, is considered to be created at the peak of the artist’s life, fetched an impressive LKR 6.6Mn.

Amarasekera was very popular as a human painter because of his unique ability. He painted many leading figures of his time in Sri Lanka and around the world. Mahatma Gandhi, Ravindranath Tagore, Jawaharlal Nehru, Anagarika Dharmapala, D.S. Senanayake, S.W. R.D. Bandaranaike, Dudley Senanayake, Sir John Kotelawala, Dr. W. Dahanayake, Sir. Oliver Goonetileke, J.R Jayawardena, D.R. Wijewardene are some of the great characters so portrayed.
